[ICOM] Icom 7300 and 7100 on FT8

I have been looking around at radios that let you rig control and the
digital modes through a USB cable, thinking that would simplify things in
the shack.  One radio I looked at was the Kenwood TS590.  It will do this,
but the manual does

 "Delays may occur when using USB audio and, depending on the load and
performance of the computer, breaks may occur in the audio.We recommend
using USB audio in situations where time lag is not an issue, such as data
communications or when recording audio onto a computer."

To me that makes it sound like time critical modes, like FT8, might not
work very well using this method.

Do the Icom 7300 and 7100 seem to have this issue?  Are people using these
rigs successfully on FT8 using the USB jack for digital modes?
