You are completely correct -- I was not clear. The 8900 does V+V or U+U I did not mean to imply it had sky command.

Am sorry to differ with you Joe, cross band repeat feature is not the
same as the Kenwood SkyCommand feature. Kenwood SkyCommand mode using
terminal node controllers (TNC) are ONLY in the Kenwood brand of radios.
