    I know a few hams that use a 706 as a 2m FM mobile rig and unless
they lower the mic gain for FM use, the TX audio setting for normal SSB
use is way too hot for FM. Apparently Icom has never compensated for
this design over sight over all the 706 rigs that were made over a good
number of years! The mic you have may not have enough gain for FM or
maybe you need to just up the gain setting for FM?
