[ICOM] W2ENY 6 kHz Filter for IC-746/756

This filter is supposed to narrow up the AM bandwidth for SWL and BCL usage. Seller recommends using it to replace the stock 15 kHz filter but it could alternatively be replace the stock 9 kHz filter. 
 
I suspect that the 15 kHz filter is needed for proper FM reception on 6m and 2m and I would not want to eliminate that capability. 
 
In what mode is the 9 kHz filter used?  AM?
