The battery is located on the LOGIC-A board. It is a BR2032-1T2 (Sanyo Part Number) but available through Digi-Key under Panasonic (BR2032/F2N). It is a Lithium cell with solder tabs.
You can download the IC-781 service manual here:http://elektrotanya.com/icom_ic-781_service_manual.pdf/download.htmlThe download button is a little obscured but located on the third line below the Document Preview and says "Get Manual".
You can see the parts layout for the appropriate location on the Logic-A on page 130 of 224. The battery (BT1) has two solder locations. The first located just to the bottom left of IC6 (between IC5 and IC6) and the second is just to the upper right of IC6 between D1 and Q8.
Some folks have soldered in a button battery case and insulated it after installing the battery. The PRO's don't recommend that though.

Subject: [ICOM] IC-781 memory battery
I have an IC-781 and I need to replace the memory battery. First, where in the radio is it located, and second, what is the battery type? 0Also, are there any special procedures, precautions regarding replacing it?
Thanks for your help

Jeff, K3DUA
