Paul; Receiver designers in the 1950's came to the realization that down conversion was fraught with image rejection, and other issues, and the state of the art allowed up conversion to overcome most of these problems. Most of the military, and commercial receiver designs incorporated up conversions from that time frame on. I suppose younger receiver designers are unaware of some of those problems. Icom apparently is not one of them.

The thing that impresses me about the 7300 is the totally new receiver architecture.
I was wondering if ICOM would ever go to down conversion, and it looks like they are skipping that entirely and using direct sampling in the 7300.
It is a great time to be a ham!
