Certain runs of the IC-2100 are known to have these problems even fresh
from the factory. Usually it is the early models, but any of them can do
it. I would check on line for the fixes. They usually entail opening up
the unit and tightening the PC board mounting screws. Adding a ground
strap to a couple of the screws and the case ground. I'd say about 90 -
95% of the time this remedies the problem. Otherwise the 2100 is not a
bad rig especially for mobile and I like the old HM-98 mike with the
tone button cover for mobile. Also, you might swap the RJ45 mike
connectors around on the mike. Both ends of the cord are the same.
