[ICOM] IC-765 question

On final tip, Google ESR and print out the chart that gives nominal values of ESR for the different value caps and voltage ratings....
Some meters have this chart printed on the front. Very useful.

Hi Randy,

One of my hamradio friends and I have checked out a few ESR meters
and found
this one to be the best at a reasonable price. This meter can be used
in
circuit, i.e. measure ESR without removing the cap. I was
considering
building one but it's not worth the
effort.

My
friend received his meter a couple of days ago and says it works great.
I'm
also ordering one for myself. This is a great tool that takes away all
the
guess work when trouble shooting caps. Good luck!

starts right up /
the 761 kind of slow ,

does anyone have a recommended ESR

Yep, the nice thing about the
ESR testers is that:
- you don't have to remove the component
- the 'value' of
the cap is shown
- the ESR is shown

You will find some old caps will be WAY
out of spec. Electrolytic caps that
are not used on a regular basis, will die
early. That's why the older caps
on the 'shelf' will usually be NFG. Newer 105
C rated caps will last almost
forever, due to sealing / construction.
If you
need any more info, feel free to contact me
directly.

Kinda what I expected. Maybe it is time to invest in
some new test equip.

Thanks,
