I don't know why I didn't think of that! I just checked the protection diode as you suggested. It reads about .51 Volts on the diode check function of my Fluke 77 digital multimeter.
It would appear that the troubles are much more minimal than I had feared. As I have previously posted, I have an actual Icom Service Manual that should arrive by the middle of next week.
