[ICOM] IC-718

The IC-718 service manual says a 1.5 KHz tone at 30 mVrms (millivolts rms)
mic gain set to center, the radio should transmit at 100 Watts output. I
would just grab a scope and adjust the output of the sound card to 30 mVrms
or connect a wattmeter and send a 1.5 KHz tone into the radio and adjust the
sound card output until you see 100 watts, then I would personally back it
down to maybe 75 watts so I did not send distorted tones from possibly
overdriving the radio until you see your signals are being received with no
issues.

The mic input should be 600 Ohms and I seem to remember most sounds are also
600 Ohms, if not grab up a matching transformer. There are plenty of
circuits all over the net for connecting sound cards to radios most of them
should work for you just fine.

Ok everyone thanks for all the help.

Now one more question. If I was to make an attenuator that takes say line
level audio voltages from a soundcard output. how many DB of an attenuator
should I make to knock it down to a level that would be suitable to feed
into the front Mic input?
