Joe,
Since you desire for the audio passband to be tailored within the
microphone and with a peak in the articulation range, why not adapt
your existing mic's to the IC-718. The Shure 444 is a high impedance
mic so you will have to transform it to low impedance for the Icom or
use a mic preamp to do the task. The Heil XT-1 high-to-low impedance
transformer should work.
Alternatively, find a Shure 444D with switchable hi-lo impedance and
still have the tailored audio you want without resorting to impedance
transformation.
The mic you have with the Heil HC-4 should work directly with the
IC-718. Or, consider taking the HC-4 element and using it to replace
the standard Icom element in the hand mic, if that's feasible.
If using the existing mics, you must change the mic connector to one
compatible with the IC-718.
For a communications quality headset consider the offerings by Arlan
Communications (Dave Bottom,
WI6R). See: http://www.arlancommunications.com/aboutTheCompany/.
At the bottom of the home page, click on the link to finding a
headset for your radio. There is a specific headset-to-radio cable
available for the IC-718. While the Website indicates a
communications style frequency response, call Dave Bottom to ensure
that the audio passband he offers is tailored to your needs. He
appears to use an electret mic element to Icom.
Good luck.
