I think you will find that the Collins has far better IM-3 products
IE a much c leaner signal.  Only now, are top end, solid state rigs 
approaching the quality of the Collins transmitted signal.(IM products)
Every one is noe producing outstanding receivers with no more than a few 
db difference in dynamic range, sensitivity, and selectivity. 
Sensitivity has long since reached far beyond the noise floor on 160, 75 
and 40 for virtually all of the "big three".

Unfortunately none of these help when a signal is wide enough to fall 
within your pass band.  It's time to see rigs striving for IM3 of 50 db. 
Then maybe the amplifier makers will also clean up their act.
