Paul,
Your answers are spot on. I still lust over the KWM-2 series but have
never owned one.
I remember "the good old days of the 60's" when they were TOP OF THE LINE.
Collins rigs have excelsior audio, as well.
Drake gear was up there too but certainly not in the same league as
Collins equipment.

#1 Because I can still easily repair/align this 60 year old radio if needed.
?
#2 Because I (and many others) lusted after a KWM-2/KWM-2A in our (much,
much) younger days and now we can afford one.
#3 Because I'm not into the latest whiz-bang solid state gear that is
probably obsolete six months after it is introduced and has a?half-life of
ten or so years at which point?critical parts become unobtanium.
#4 Because between my KWM-2A, 312B-5 Remote VFO, and 30S-1 when power is
needed I can?usually work anything I can hear, and don't find a lack
of?special filters/dsp/etc to be a deterent to enjoying ham radio.
#5 As for WARC, my KWM-2A is fully populated with WARC band crystals and I
have no problems with the WARC bands. Yes, the KWM-2 doesn't have the extra
crystal positions, but you could still swap crystals if you really wanted to
get on WARC.
#6 etc....etc....etc....?? www.w2ec.com/W2EC.html
