[ICOM] Icom 706MKIIG and filter issue?

I have an Icom 706MKIIG I picked up recently, and I installed the FL101
250hz CW filter in it.  It seems to have more filter blowby than the 706
original and 706MKII models I have used in the past. I can hear loud
stations several KCs away with the filter in line.  Is this common for the
MKIIG series?  Also, the FL101 seems to knock down the receive levels more
than I remember it doing in the 706MKII I had recently (also with a FL101
installed).  On some bands it seems that I have to really crank up the
audio to hear some things (and this is with headphones).  I know the filter
is working somewhat, at least, because I am receiving things with it in
line.
