[ICOM] IC-746 PRO Keying

It shouldn't, if the plug is wired right and the rig hasn't been modified.
The Sleeve contact in the rig is far enough back that it won't short the
Ring, so plugging in a stereo plug in a mono jack has no effect as long as
the plug is wired correctly (polarity/not shorted across tip to ring or
sleeve).

This isn't true with headphones (you'll only hear in one ear) but is
normally not a problem with keys.

IIRC (I'm away from home), the straight key is supposed to use the TIP and
SLEEVE of the key jack. The 2-circuit plug in the 3-way jack would
continuously ground both TIP and RING contacts.

I am not clear as to your symptoms.
