George  I have 5 of these in service., my thoughts are 

check the actual fan, that it spins., on mine in the mobile., they get 
loaded with dust and need to be cleaned. 

the display you describe sounds like a "demonstration" display., designed to 
catch your eye. 

Do you have the manual?
