You're going to love it!

Leave it plugged in at all times so the power to the xtal oven isn't
cycled too frequently (A replacement oven is $$$$$$!). (Shipping
weight is >80# and insured UPS domestic shipment is >$150.00; save
your original carton.)

Read the manual as you explore the features of your new baby. Most
controls are quite intuitive, but there are several "hidden"
configuration settings (like holding the VOX switch in for over one
second), so initially you'll find the manual very useful until you've
explored most of the control settings.

If you intend to setup a computer controlled station for remote
control over your iPhone, you'll soon learn, unlike the Kenwood
TS-2000, the IC-7800 lacks an RS-232 (CI-V) command to power the
transceiver on and off. This a is a fatal flaw for remote operation
in my opinion; I am currently in negotiations with Icom America to get
that placed on the Icom Japan product improvement list, and
concurrently developing a fix myself as well.

You'll find greatly increased operational functionality through the
use of interfacing your IC-7800 to your computer. I use TRX-Manager,
and have found it virtually bug free and very actively supported by
its author. The ability to click on a spectrum spike, or DX Cluster
entry, and instantly tune to that station, the integrated logbook, and
integrated Alpha 87A and LP-100A controls make operating quick, and
pleasurable, as well as adding the ability to add macro CV-I commands
to instantly implement diversity reception for instance.

With two receivers and two lantanas, diversity reception (not
specifically mentioned in the User Manual) aids greatly in overcoming
QSB, something even the best single antenna can't accomplish. I use
two response-tunable SP-20 speakers, but you can hear each receiver
independently, one in each ear, through headphones.

The ergonomics are incredibly well done considering the many many
parameters supported.

You're going to love it!
