[ICOM] 17m and preamp question

John,
Don't know if it's fesible, but first think I'd try would be moving
the end near the power lines to another location, even if it meant
having it lower. See if getting it away from the power lines brings
the noise down any. Reason I asked about the AM transmitter towers,
the 706 is real bad about overloading when one is within 1/2 mile to a
mile, if it's a 50kw station. You might try a second antenna, maybe
a 20m dipole, located as far from the power lines as possible.
Problems I've encountered, if antenna is close to a house or barn, it
will pick up florecent lights, electric fences, similar stuff real
bad.
