Phil, well, I live in a very small town here in N Florida. It is also very old. Heck, I'm the last person on this power line string.
My noise level can vary from S0 to S9+20 db. I mostly find that on 6 Meters, it's the worst.
I have a 7 el Yagi at 105' fed with 7/8" Hardline. My Drake TR-6's NB works well. The 706g will take the higher noise level and completely eliminate it. The 756PRO shows the same relative noise levels and it's NB mostly does nothing. This is with both radio's preamps on, the PRO on Preamp 2. My g is the 'European Model'. I doubt it makes any difference, but it does use a different processor than the USA Model. I hand carried my PRO home also but they are the same as the USA Model. JA has a different 2M band pland than we do.......
The spectrum display looks like a comb, with the teeth facing up! Ugly!!!
I wish I had a $ for every time the power company has been out there. There's a buddy of mine about 1/4 mile from me and I think he calls them every week. ha ha
The last RFI investigator was a super nice guy but not the best in locating the noise sources. I would call him (after I put in an 'official' complaint), and tell him the pole # and put an orange flag on it. It's getting better, but been fighting the noise for several years.
Of course, when it's dry and windy, it's the absolute worse.
I have never lived in a area that gets so LITTLE rain.........drat.

You must live in a very quiet QTH! A friend once sent a 706 to Icom
o see if they could get the NB to work better. Icom replied that it
orked just as it should which meant it didn't do much. I did find that
sing my 706MKIIG mobile in motion is much more pleasant if I use a set
f the Heil Pro Set Quiet Phones. Probably shouldn't do that if you are
lso the driver! I get a fair amount of engine noise from my GMC gas
ngine PU.

I have a 706g I hand carried back from Tokyo. The NB works perfect. As well as
he one in my 761. The NB in the 756PRO is NFG.
The monochrome display was used in the 756 not the 756PRO. FWIW

The NB in the 706 rigs was notorious for being poor from the very
eginning. . The DSP in the MKIIG was quite a bit better but not great
ither.
One problem with stuff made in JA (other than vehicles) is good luck
etting parts more than a few years after they are out of production.
he monochrome screen in the 756PRO has been unavailable for some time
nd is a common failure. On cars sold in the US market, the manufacturer
s required to stock parts for a good number of years.

Is the 706 original no longer supported by Icom? I will agree that it is a
good radio for what you can get them for. I sure like the one I have-if
only the NB would work better.
