I have no clue as to whether this will help you out or not. I once had to reinstall the Prolific driver(s) prior to getting my software to work properly via a COM to USB adapter with my 706MKIIG. I tried many times via the add/remove program method, but nothing seemed to work until I ran the driver removal tool via the Prolific website here:  http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31
