He didn't do it on purpose - at least not knowingly.
Several of these Social Media sites have a box where they say "See Who You
Already Know on LinkedIn. Searching your email contacts is the easiest way
to find people you already know on LinkedIn."
You unwittingly enter in your email id and password and it logs into your
web email account and harvests your address book. So, yes - technically the
sender is responsible - they didn't watch what they were doing. Sneaky on
the Social Medias site? Very!
