[ICOM] Internal PS question

I've had two IC-751As with internal supplies and both could be heard on receive, although my first one was not bad enough to be concerned with. The second one, though, was loud and even caused a buzzing noise on my transmit audio. I was able to re-route the cabling inside the radio and improve it some, but it remained irritating till the end.

If I were buying another 751A I would still prefer to have the built-in supply. You wouldn't have to use it if you didn't want to.

Subject: [ICOM] Internal PS question

On the older Icoms like the 740 and 751A that have an internal PS option, is it usually better to get one with or without the PS?  It would be convenient to just plug the rig into the wall, but how quiet are these older switching PS?  Also, does the heat they generate affect the reliability of the radios at all?
