[ICOM] PW-1 CI-V programming question

Well, I finally got a chance to try the Pro2 and PW-1 synchronization, and
it's no go.  I followed N5KG's instructions and got the Input light to go
steady after turning the Pro2's tuning knob.  But then when I follow the
turn off/on sequence as listed, the PW-1 still doesn't know what band the
Pro2 is on until I transmit.  

Any ideas why the PW1 sees enough to make the Input light go steady, but not
be able to follow the Pro2's band movements, at least not until I transmit?
Have I lost CI-V capability for both rigs and the PW1?  I'm pretty sure the
Pro3's CI-V is toast, because I couldn't even get the Input light to stop
blinking.  But I'm not sure about the Pro2.

Joe,

Sounds like you were able to synch the Pro II to the PW1, but didn't shut 
down properly for the synch to be memorized. Follow the instructions 
carefully: after synch, shut down amp first, then radio. (see reflector 
posting from KB7ME)

If you can successfully demonstrate that the Pro II and PW1 are working 
together, substitute the Pro III and set its CI-V address and baud rate to 
that of the Pro II. Does it work? That will indicate whether the Pro III was

somehow damaged by the strike.

Everything is set as it should be on the Pro3.  There was no logging program
involved, it was just communication between the Pro3 and the PW-1.  I have
Transceive = ON and the baud rate set to 9600.

I have a Pro2 which I put in place of the Pro3, also with Transceive = ON
and Baud Rate of 9600.  This time, after turning the Pro2 dial, I got the
Input light to go steady after blinking (which tells me something is wrong
in the Pro3 CI-V circuit).  But then I turned both the PW-1 and Pro2 off and
on again, and there seemed to be no communication between the two.  Not sure
why, other than I may have done something incorrectly.

The directions on page 12 of the PW-1 manual are confusing. I've done this
before, but it's been about six months.  What gets turned on before what?  I
suspect the exciter has to be off, because if it's not off and you press the
Input button for the PW-1 (before hitting the power button), you simply
toggle between inputs 1 and 2.

I suspect I'm going to have to rebuild this from scratch I think, because I
think there are multiple CI-V failures.

It sounds like your 756 Pro II is set to Transceive =OFF mode. With
transceive =OFF, rotating the dial or changing bands on the radio will not
send data to the PW1, and your PW1 will not learn the 756 CI-V address and
baud rate. Set the 756 for its default CI-V address, set 756 transceive =ON,

and re-visit the steps for synchronizing the amp to the radio.

Without logging software sending frequency packets on the bus, and
transceive =OFF, the only frequency updates between the amp and rig happened

when the PW1 polls the radio every 10 seconds. I cannot say for sure, but
that might also explain the strange lag in band updates between radio and
amp.

I'm hoping someone can help me with a PW-1 programming issue.



My 756 ProIII/PW-1 interface was working fine until some nearby lightning
strikes.  I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, has gone wrong with
the CI-V programming, or if it's just me.  Here's what happens now:



1. Pro3 is on and PW-1 is off, but the front panel frequency LED is
lit.  The Pro3 is on 20 meters and the PW-1 shows 14.
2. If I then select 15 meters on the Pro3, the PW-1 doesn't budge.
3. If I then start transmitting CW on 15 meters, the PW-1 LED switches
from 14 to 21 in about 1 second.  This will repeat no matter what frequency
I switch to.the PW-1 LED frequency won't switch until I start transmitting.



So there seems to be some communication between the Pro3 and the PW-1.  But
when I try reprogramming the CI-V address, the following takes place:



1. Pro3 and PW-1 are off.
2. Press UP and DOWN buttons and push Power on the PW-1.  This should
reset things.
3. Turn off the PW-1.
4. Press the Input button on the PW-1 and then push Power on the PW-1.
5. Press power on the Pro3.
6. Wait for the Pro3 to "boot", then rotate the Pro3 knob, which should
make the PW-1s input light go steady.  But it keeps blinking at me.  That
never used to happen in the past.



What am I missing or doing incorrectly.  I know I've done this correctly
before, so I'm confused.
