[ICOM] Dualing mic jacks issue

Gary and all,
I'm reading John's post to say that the FSK/AFSK issue has little to do with
the 706, but more to do with the current laptops not supporting true serial
ports, the problems with many USB to serial adapters, and the ease of AFSK
with sound cards and VOX. I see on my scope and hear the results of those
problems EVERY time I get on RTTY anymore, hi.

That said, I am an old fashioned guy, run an XP desktop with HAL dedicated
RTTY equipment, and never run anything but FSK, but RTTY is all I do
digitally too, so that's not an endorsement one way or another. I'm getting
interested in digital SSTV, so that may ALL change in my shack shortly!!! I
still think Gary's advice to use the rear data jack is VERY applicable.
Constant output audio, and use of PTT vs VOX for digital would solve many of
the problems I see on digital modes!!!
73,
Don, WB5HAK
