Subject: [ICOM] Repair an IC-781?
While away at a dog show a few weeks ago my daughter (house sitting the non
show-dogs) called in a panic, something exploded and was burning. I told
her that if she couldn't find it in about 30 seconds to grab the dogs, leave
and call 911.
She called about 30 minutes later and said she couldn't find anything, but
the smell quit. She got my son (A former firefighter (before joining the
army) to come look the house over. He agreed, something burned but he
couldn't see anything either.
Well - today I found it. I have really not used my IC-781 since getting my
Yaesu FT-817 almost 3 years ago. It was plugged in, but turned off. Now it
won't come on, and the rear smells burnt.
My daughter says the lights in the house went really bright, then dim, then
normal. It was a windy night, and most likely some wires crossed phase
somewhere putting 220 in the house momentarily. All I can figure.
Anyway - I need a reliable IC-781 repairman. My usual go-to guy Scott
Malcom does not do the 781. So - any recommendations?
I have a dog show in Dallas in about 4 weeks, so if there is a reliable guy
in Dallas, perhaps we can avoid mailing it.
Thanks for any input.
