This might be a bit off topic, but it's a slow day here in the woods of N Florida.
I used to make a lot of trip to Tokyo. When they were newly announced, I purchased a 706g. It was not until the flight home, I realized that the radio was the "European / JA" version. The difference between it and the North American version, is the coverage on the 2 Meter band. The JA version only covers 144 - 146 MHz, all modes. I did a lot of research and removed a couple of 'steering' diodes, which DID open up the receive all the way to 148 MHz, but transmit was still confined to the bottom 2 MHz.
I was 'told' the JA version used a different processor. No big deal, since I bought the radio of it's CW/SSB capability.
There was NO way, I was going to leave this radio in a car, using it for FM, having some nut stealing it, thinking it was a CB!!! ha ha
