I have been doing that for years - starting with the IC-706 MK-I, then the
703, then the 7000.  I build the stand out of aluminum and wood.  I have a
friend who lives in a tiny apartment in an assisted living center.  The
faceplate and mic are mounted to his pole lamp next to his easy chair.  The
main chassis and power supply are under a table.  That was the only way to
squeeze his station into the room.

It's a wonder they didn't do it sooner.
