Too bad about the damage. Icom should be able to repair it though.
I think back and when i was there we used UPS almost exclusively, when
UPS went on strike we used the Post Office priority Mail, most arrived
via US mail with no damage and faster than UPS.
We shipped the IC-781 in its original packaging inside of an outside
box, about 50 lbs in weight, to dealers and repair radio to customers
with almost no damage occurrences.

I also had folks who would call everyday to see if their radio arrived
and for us to be sure to check it for damage. One I found was placed
into a box with 10 shipping peanuts for packing. Of course it had damage
and FedEx stepped up and repaired it.

Its amazing to me when a person follows the packaging suggestions as you
apparently did items still sustain damage. I usually over pack , over
protect items. Fed Ex has a real nice laptop shipping box that was about
$10.00.
I sent a laptop to my son from Washington to Florida in one of those
with no damage. Might be good for some amateur radios though its not
real think.

Repair is about $350. I used the same boxes that the radio arrived here in from Calif via FedEx, but this time a UPS ape dropped it, or threw it.
