[ICOM] WTD: 706MkII control head or replacement LCD display

IIRC the 706 was recently discontinued so I'd expect parts might still
be available from Icom.

My Kenwood TM-D700 got so hot in the car the entire display went black,
but fortunately it cleared up after it cooled down and sat over night.

OTOH my TM-V7A didn't get over heated, but the display did what you are
describing until it was taking out portions of the digits in the readout
and became pretty much useless. I found out had it gone bad about 6
months earlier they would have replaced it for free as there was
apparently a fault with the early ones. As it was "just the display"
cost me around $300. (It's been a while so I don't remember the exact
cost). It'd be interesting to find out how much the display costs for a
706 compared to the one in the TM-V7D

The 706 uses an arrangement that is similar. They are not difficult to
replace, but they require "cleanliness". IF it's as I remember just a
spec of dirt on the edge connector can prevent a display segment from
turning on.

With the offer of a spare on here, you might want to look into
replacing the display (if still available) for a spare, or some one else
may turn up looking for one. Depending on price it might or might not be
economical. If the display costs as much as the entire control head as
in the TM-V7A it probably wouldn't be worth the effort.

Good Luck,

So far it's in the corners or sides where it doesn't interfere with reading the display but I expect it will get worse. Radio is used mobile so is subject to extreme weather variations throughout winter and summer. I expect that may be the cause. Love the radio so would like to locate a spare head (with a good display) or a display by itself (if they are replaceable, haven't taken mine apart to see). Any suggestions on parts availability/replacement of LCD? Radio works fine, not interested in upgrading to a new mobile HF rig.
