[ICOM] IC 229H deviation adjustment?

In all likelihood, the output of your TNC
is grossly overdriving your IC-229H.
 
Maximum total deviation on packet (both tones)
should be UNDER 3 kHz.  High tone will probably
be around 2 to 2.5 kHz and low tone around 1.5
kHz at the maximum.
