I'm pretty sure the only two Icom rigs that CANNOT be readily modified for
transmit on 60 meters are the two early ones they made that do not have
general coverage receive capability, namely their first HF rig (the IC-701)
and the IC-730. Even their first "general coverage receive" radio, the
IC-720, can be modified for use on 60, but it's not the easiest to use there,
due to the fact that U can't store 5 memories in it, and it's not as easy
to navigate the "channels" on 5 MHz. All of their radios that have
receivers capable of tuning continuously to 30 MHz (or higher, in the case of
radios that cover 6 meters, such as the IC-726, IC-729, etc............and of
course the IC-746 that adds 2 meters, and all the IC-706 versions) can be
modified for general-coverage transmit, which includes 60 meters. The only
caveat I'm aware of in any so-modified Icom radio is the IC-756 series
issue involving the low pass filter problem; I'm sure there's a way to avoid
this by figuring out how to get around the radio's filter selection
architecture, but I've never owned/worked on an Icom IC756-anything, and have never
had an opportunity to look.
The "mods.dk" site is probably the best place to look for this info (as
well as other useful modifications), but, yes, if U want to download more
than one such modification a day, U do have to pay a small fee.
