I have used the following rigs, at a large contest station, with very good
antennas. This is what I can tell you. Specs are over rated. Period. you
can look at numbers, and its real world that counts.
Pro 3..great rig, I like it better than the 781.
IC 781 w/INRAD roofing filter. Great rig..
IC 7800 great rig. Can't hear anything that the PRO or 781 can't.
K3 harsh sounding rx to me, very tiring, selective, but, no different than
the other 3.

I have the K2 and it scores very high using www.sherweng.com measurements
(and ARRL test lab) and I've learned "numbers" aren't everything!!

MIke; I wouldn't dare try to select the proper rig for you until I know
exactly your operating preferences , habits , and financial abilities were.
For a good look at what each rigs numbers are, take a look at Bob
Sherwoods
web site and look at his www.sherweng.com
The numbers on the Elecraft K-3 and Yaesu FT-5000 both look quite good.
Also
the Icom 7800, and 7700.

Hi Larry,
What rigs do you recommend for CW contesting?
Best and 73,
