Conrad,
You aren't telling us enough info to know where you're going.
Are you trying to derive a physical PTT? I don't know the
SignalKink unit. Some units don't have a physical PTT, they depend
on the audio coming to the radio to key it (you have to have the mic
gain turned up, and the VOX ON on the 756. It is depending on audio
to the radio to key it, like when you use VOX with the microphone on
SSB (hopefully you're in the USB mode on the radio).
The other method is to use a physical PTT (that's the only way I
will do it). You can pick up PTT (push to talk) at one of two
locations on the 756. The mic plug uses pin 5 on the 8 pin mic plug
(you could touch it with a grounded wire and physically key the
radio), same thing the PTT button does on you mic when you push the
talk button. The second location is in the back of the radio, the 8
pin ACC plug, it uses pin 6 on the 8 pin ACC1 plug. You need to
understand that the mic levels at the 2 locations for transmit audio
is very different. The mic audio in on the front is pin 1, it takes
mic level audio, which is very low. It is real easy to overdrive it,
but you can control it with your mic gain control on the 756. Using
the rear panel ACC1 plug, your audio input is pin 4, but you have to
set the level up either in your SignaKink with a pot adjustment, or
add a potimeter (varable resister) in line to adjust it. Your input
at this point is about 0 dbm, or 100mv of audio. Mic level audio
here (about 50db lower for the mic input on the front of the radio at
the mic connector) will not key the radio with afsk from an mic level
audio. A low level of audio on the back, with the radio not set for
physical PTT, will leave you unable to key the radio via the vox on
setting. I built my own interface, using Isocouples for PTT, CW key,
and FSK input, plus audio level pots. Not that hard to do, but you
need to get your levels set correctly for your interface.
Hope this helps.
