I can't speak of any Icom unit, as Gary has
noted, but the R-71 had a small pigtail lead
incandescent lamp in series with the antenna
input and the RF board input. It is marked
as DS1 on the RF unit schematic, page 8-2, of
the service manual. Interestingly, it is not
detailed in the parts list.
I had one damaged and froma collection of small
similar looking lamps, I picked one with the
lowest filament voltage and soldered it in the
circuit. Worked fine.
