Really interesting I looked on the FCC equipment database and can't find
where they ever gave Icom Inc a grant.
The manufacturer is assigned a Grantee code, in the early days Icom's
was AFJ9XU since then shortened by the FCC to just AFJ.
The manufacturer than chooses the rest of the FCC ID, so in your case
they would have been assigned AFJ9XU then added the model number IC-2KL.
I did a fast and advanced search. Could be that Icom was thinking they
needed to submit the amp to the FCC and stuck an FCC ID number onto it.
Inputting a test search of AFJIC-736 that rig came right up. Doing
AFJ9XUIC-735 or AFJIC-735 the search found nothing.
AFJ-IC706MKIIG did not find anything either so something else is needed.
Likely the version number.
Icom has over 707 FCC grants. On the web page listed below Inputting
just AFJ into the first search box and clicking on search will bring up
all the FCC grants to Icom.
