[ICOM] New shipment of IC-746Pro's at AES

Gary,
I didn't mention the IC-703+...
:-)
It is great for short backpacking trips and canoe trips. We used it with a
40M NVIS dipole on several occasions and also use it for demonstrating HF
with the IC-7000. It allows a person to set up a station with pieces that
are not as intimidating as an IC-756PROIII!

Thanks & 73,

Gary,
I am very blessed. Through a long period of time and with some patience and
funding, I have been able to put together a very nice shack. Since you
asked...
:-)

The IC-756PROIII and IC-756PROII are often used in an SO2R type of operation
on HF and/or 6M and they currently share a Rigblaster DUO. This is good but
does not allow for dual digital operations and is something that I will
address sometime in the future. The IC-746PRO is generally run on 2M and
has a Rigblaster Pro dedicated to it. When I am running on 6M with the
756's, I sometimes switch over the 746PRO to 10M to catch the occasional new
one there. Right now my antennas are in a state of flux, but I have an
80/40M trap dipole at 35ft, a 40M NVIS dipole, a rotatable dipole for
17/15/12/10M, two Directive Systems five element yagis on different
rotators, a ten element Directive Systems yagi, a large 2M vertical, several
FM multiband verticals and several J-Poles. I need to redo the antennas to
support my Down East Transverters that go through 2304, and to install
either a 31ft or 43ft HF vertical. So much to do and NO TIME!

The IC-7000 is used mobile and in my "go kit" which allows me to
conveniently demonstrate several aspects of Amateur Radio to Scout and other
groups without tearing up my shack. The "go kit" box also has a Rigblaster
Plug n Play and Alinco DR-135TP which has an internal packet modem. It also
has an LDG AT-100PRO tuner, speakers, jacks for car accessories, a RigRunner
and power supply for my laptop. The whole thing has one 12V power lead and
a single harness that goes out to the laptop and to a remote video display
for the IC-7000. There are four antenna outputs, 2 HF from the tuner, a
144/432/440 from the 7000 and a 144 for the DR-135TP. Accessories and
administrative tools are kept in the lid of the box, which also has an LED
light bar which runs on its own batteries. There is also a pile of HTs and
FM rigs around here and that can be shared with the Scouts, if members of
our family don't need them.

BTW: All five of us are Radio Amateurs and the common point of enjoyment is
clearly public service events, though my wife and oldest son are also prone
to rag chews! For myself, I like it ALL, but antennas, VHF/UHF/Microwave
hill-topping and doing systems design and integration are fun as well. I
can be regularly found either home, mobile or portable operating HF
SSB/CW/PSK31, 50/144 MHz SSB/CW, VHF/UHF FM, 144 Packet and D-Star.

Our Boy Scout Troop 139 and Venture Crew 7373, has a dozen licensed boys and
a similar number of adults. Several other Scouts have radios and are
actively studying and are focused on taking their exams after a one day
review session/class that we are running between Christmas and New Years for
Technician, General and Extra candidates. They make really good use of the
gear in a variety of activities. Several times each year (Field Day and
Jamboree on the Air), I do bring it all and the boys make good use of
everything. We also do a number of public service events from Bike Tours
and Walks to public safety drills and sometimes actual events requiring
shelter operations. Twelve Scouts have taken the adult CERT class and the
whole Troop is trained in CPR and First Aid. Over the last five years, we
have had six Scouts become EMTs and we are in the process of teaching each
Scout IS-100 and IS-700.

So this was a quick overview of the equipment in the shack of
W2TTT/N2FWI/KC2SQV/KC2NZC/KC2VBS and some their activities. Hope you
enjoyed the read!
:-)

Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT

I don't know Gordon maybe you need one as a spare rig for the other
spare rigs you have .;)
