Ted,
Some info to consider.
The IC-211 is notorious for intermittent. In most all cases this can be
corrected by replacing the feed-thru pins in the synthesizer module. If I
recall there is about 13 steel pins that are soldered to the top and bottom
of the circuit board. The boards do not have plated thru boards. I have
repaired many of them by replacing the feed-thru pins with a short piece of
copper wire and the problem becomes history. They are great radios and once
corrected the units are very reliable will work forever.
This deficiency also exist in the IC-22s and the IC-245. At one time I had 2
IC-245's and 5 IC-22s that I purchased at ham fest with intermittent
operation. I changed the pins out and ran them for about 10 yrs 24/7 on my
packet nodes and BBS.
