You could use a Grid Dip Meter and look for unexpected
resonances at or near the point where the failure is occuring.
In the OFF mode perhaps there may be some switch that is
not conducting, where if it was in the ON mode it would be
conducting, and the bias current would prevent an unexpected
static build up.  I hope yours is not the only ProIII with the
problem.  Let us know.
