[ICOM] Touch Up Paint

Good luck in getting anything off the shelf that matches. If you do find it,
great!
Your best bet is to take the piece into Home Depot or Lowes and let them
scan it in. HD has sample jars for $3 and it may take 2-3 scans to get the
near perfect match. I've probably spent over $75 in paints trying to get
the right match for a piece Heath gear I'm restoring. (The dang thing is
probably only worth $35!)
If you are only doing a tiny bit of touch up, you can probably get away with
literally "touching it up". If you need to do more, like the door you are
mentioning, you will probably want to try and match the texture too. For
that you can use a can of Rustoleum "texture" spray paint. I just looked at
my IC-471H and that has some texture to it that should be a good match for
that Rustoleum. Finish off with a top coat of the custom made blend. Of
course, this involves sprayers (I use a HVLP gun) and that may be more than
what you want to get yourself involved in.
Be advised that the spray paint manufactures often changed their paint
lineup over the years. There once was an almost perfect match available for
some Heathkit green colors. I had the brand, color name and even the stores
stock number. Unfortunately the mfg decided to change its product lineup
and it is no longer available.
Matching colors is a real PITA. I had a college roommate who majored in
Color Science. He told me that the Automobile manufactures spend a ton of $$
trying to get the colors in a car to match under all lighting conditions.
i.e Sunlight, vs. fluorescent vs. Mercury Vapor vs. Sodium vapor, etc, etc.
Good hunting,

Subject: [ICOM] Touch Up Paint
Some time back someone indicated that a "match" for the
Vintage Icoms (271/745/751 etc) paint could be found at
Home Depot...no SKU Numbers, Mfg info was given
I went to my local Home Depot and picked up a spray can
of "Rust-Oleum Painters Touch, Satin hunt club green,
#249074...SKU 20066 18731 6.
The cap of the paint matched my Icom sample, the small plate
on the top of my 271...looked good...but, it's not that close
Can anyone out there help with this?
