Thanks, Jim. If you're using the NUE-PSK modem, then the instructions I
suggested for setting the correct audio output level on a PC running Windows
are not relevant.

The instructions for the modem that will be used also have similar
cautions about the power settings and go a little bit farther.

The modem in use is the NUE-PSK modem.  According to the information on the
web site, when using this modem it is possible to operate PSK31, and a few
other modes, without having to connect the radio to a computer.  The modem
also can be operated with battery power either two 9 volt or 8 AA 1.5 volt
in a battery pack (or for earlier units, two 9 volt batteries inside the
modem).  According to the web site, all that is required is a radio, an
antenna, the modem and a keyboard.  Also required is the necessary power for
these units which could be either from batteries, as in an emergency
situation, or a generator for Field Day.
