Gordon, I use a Hustler vertical with the low and high power resonators. I
use a IC-706 MK2G, AT-7000 auto tuner and a BuxCom, 1 to 3 balun. I have a
separate mag mount, 5/8 wave for 2 & 440. I have a hands free set up with
the control head mounted on the handlebars with a Lido mount. I can work 160

 meters to 440. Willy K3VW

Willy,
Interesting! Motorcycle mobile! Pretty wild! Is that in motion? What
antenna(s) do you use?

Thanks & 73,

Have them both. Been using them on my motorcycle. The IC-7000 is the
better
radio with the AB5N mod on the mic. Willy K3VW

Hi Folks!

Let me spin the question of whether to buy an IC-7000 a bit and ask if
you
had both an IC-7000 and an IC-706 MKIIG for your Go Kit or your mobile,
which radio would go where?

Let me qualify the question with the following background information:

The mobile station has additional separate Alinco radios for FM on 144,
222
and 440, and mounting the additional ICOM rig prominently and safely is
no
problem. There are plenty of antennas (screwdrivers, HF/VHF/UHF whips and
halos for 50/144/432 MHz) for whichever ICOM radio ends up in the mobile.

The Go Kit has provisions for separate/additional 2M FM and Packet using a
Alinco DR-135 with internal packet modem and there is a West Mountain
Radio
RigBlaster Plug N Play for whichever ICOM rig ends up in the Go Kit. There
is a LDG AT-100Pro tuner, speakers, headset and power distribution all set
up in the Go Box. I am going to build an adapter to allow the use of the
factory microphone or the headset while maintaining the use of the
microphone buttons if the headset is in use.

The Go Kit currently has the IC-7000 in it, but has been mounted in the
truck before, so mounts and cabling are not an issue.

I am active in both EMCOMM work and Scouting where these stations get
constant use and exposure to others.

So given this, what would you do?

Thanks & 73,

Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
