[ICOM] Icom 706 PA's

I made an interesting discovery last week.  I have read on multiple sites about the Icom 706 PA transistors being no longer available.  The part number often referenced is SRFJ7044.  I vaguely remembered that it looked like the transistors in my original 706 (purchased used at a hamfest) had been replaced.  Today when I installed a CW filter I decided to check and see what they had been replaced with.  My final transistors are MRF255's.  So I thought some smart tech had found a replacement for the 7044s.  Guess what? My IC706 service manual shows MRF255's as the HF PA transistors and a different transistor, MRF5015, as the VHF PA, which is contrary to all the data I have read about three 7044's being used 2 in HF and 1 in VHF.   It appears that the MRF255's are available, although they probably are not cheap.  The one source that I contacted wanted $128 each for two.  Might be a good thing to look for at hamfests and surplus dealers.  It
appears that the posts regarding SRFJ7044's are talking about MkII's and early MkIIG's.
