In the world of buying and selling, those who complain are generally those
who paid too much or think they didn't get enough regardless of the market
they attempted to sway. Either way, they feel they got had, one way or
another and are attempting to justify what happened to them. 10% is my two
decade-plus running average of buying and selling several times a week.

There are extremes in both directions, but the percentage is minor,
generally 1-2%.

On the plus side someone is always willing to pay way, way too much. In
1997 I sold thirty-two radios I paid roughly $500 for. I bought a new
Toyota Celica GT with the money I got from them. After racing it into the
ground, I was happy to sucker, I mean offer, it for $200 to a neighbor who
needed a project, the junk yard would only pay $70 for a four year old car
with about 30K miles on the vehicle, but with a replacement engine exceding
factory specs and capabilities. I'd have given it to them for that, but I
would have kept the wheels and sold those for another $150. Such a deal he
got for $20 less than I could have had!

When you don't need something any more, when you're looking to get rid of
it, when it's superflous to your needs and its existance irrelevant after
the other guy gets it, it's just not worth that much, generally.

Of course if you're happy giving me a few grand extra, you can bet I'm going
to take it and no, I won't buy you lunch.

: While Kurt's 10% rule-of-thumb might be a bit on the low side, I
: doubt it is far from the mark on routine radios that were sold in
: large numbers.
