[ICOM] 60 Mtr Operation with ICOM 746

I suspect that the internal IC-746 tuner would probably
find a good match if, and if, the 60m antenna were
basically resonant; i.e., a 60m dipole.
My LDG AT-200 Pro WILL find a match for MY antenna,
but it takes quite a bit of searching for it to do so.
I am certain that the impedance of my ~ 120' dipole is
wildly complex at 60m frequencies.

Are you sure that's what ICOM said? They can help you
get the 746 to transmit on 60 Mtrs, but has nothing to do with
whether the internal tuner can find a match. What ICOM could
have said is that they can arrange for the internal tuner to try to
tune, "find a match", but they can't guarntee it ever will.
I use AH-4 for all HF, including 6.

Wow, thanks to all who replied. It appears between the low and
high pass filtering and logic circuitry, the 746 tuner will not find
a match. It tries, but just stops after a few seconds.
I was originally told by ICOM if I had a MARS license and sent
them a copy, they would supply the information on how to make
the tuner function. I do not have the license. But based on what
you all have said and what I found on this subject on other
"ham radio" sites, I am doubting that I should do anything more...
after all my manual external tuner does just fine for now.
I am just happy I can use 60 mtrs with my 746 rig.
Thanks again everyone !!
