Good Day All,
Many of you reading this may recall the issue I had a week ago, or so, with
my 751A in CW mode, i.e. when I transmitted, the actual emitted signal was
2-KHz BELOW the display frequency of the transceiver...
I remember seeing somewhere that Icom had parts supplier quality issue
back-in-the-day with their crystals, as well as with their trimmer
capacitors...so on a whim I removed "X1" (the CW carrier generating crystal)
from the main RF board, and replaced it with one from a spare board that I
bought sometime ago from eBay.
Voila...!
The signal emitted from the transceiver is now EXACTLY the same as that
indicated on the display---but here's the catch: the actual RF signal output
is now so low as to barely register in the "PO" setting of the meter. As
well, the thing refuses to emit any RF in any of the other modes (sigh!),
whereas before, everything was perfect on AM & SSB (double-sigh!).
Any clues from anyone as to what happened this time...?
Does the entire IF stage of the transceiver need to be re-aligned, now that
the carrier / set frequency has been corrected? (NOTE: the set came to me
from a repair depot "fully aligned & checked" several weeks ago: could it be
that it was aligned to the incorrect offset frequency generated by the
defective crystal...? And if, why was the emitted signal offset by 2-KHz
before, but only on CW?).
Any & all feedback both welcomed, and solicited...thanks in advance, & my vy
