How to resolve it depends on the type of switch under the button.

Most new equipment, whether the button is a soft elastomeric with carbon
backing, or hard button with elstomeric plunger with carbon backing, can be
brought back to life by cleaning the PCB contact with 91% rubbing alcohol
and a Q-tip, three to four cleanings does the trick.  The carbon backing
breaks down and migrates or disintegrates over time, this can be reparied by
using a conductive paint CAREFULLY, paint the contact only, or replace the
carbon contact with aluminum, the favorite technique of a friend of mine.

If the switch underneath is mechanical, replacements can be found in misc
electronic equipment such as DVD players, CD players, cassette (video, audio
et cetera), computer mice and so forth.
