[ICOM] New blade type Icom power connectors

I too would be interested in hearing the problems with Anderson's. If you
are the only one that is going to use the radio and not concerned with ARES
or any other emergency communications, then you could use anything that will
handle the current. Most of the 1/4" blades are borderline 15 Amps A.K.A
spade quick disconnects. The new ICOM, and for that matter Kenwood, OEM
connectors can be found at www.powerwerx.com.

I have been using Anderson's since the early '80s and under extremely rare
conditions have I had a problem. If coming unplugged is the problem, a cable
tie is the solution during use and can easily be cut. Anderson's are the
standard for ARES communications and in more than I can count PS events in
both Oregon and Washington. With the Anderson's, it is a simple matter to
change out rigs and get back to operating rather than having to fiddle with
adapters. It took many years to convince the skeptics to change from Molex
to Anderson's even though most people knew the current carrying capacity of
the 0.09 Molex was limited to much less than 12 Amps when the duty cycle
started to exceed 40%. The Molex connectors started getting hot.

That said, I have come across many people using 30A Anderson connectors with
10 ft or more of 18 or 20 AWG wire trying to run 20 Amps through them and
wondering why the wire was burning up.

I'm slowly standardizing on Power Poles and would be very interested to know

what the problems are that many people are having with them, before I get
everything changed over.

Thanks
