[ICOM] Pro3 Fan Questions

As you are a new owner of a 756ProIII let me make you aware of a problem
some of
us are experiencing with this rig.

Check out the thread (Icom) IC-756PROIII No Transmit.

My 5 month old 756P3 is back at Icom for the second time. The first time
there was no mention of what the problem was. They just fixed it, boxed
it up, and sent it back to me. There was a list of Icom part numbers but
no indication of what these parts actually were. Now, for the second
time it is back, the service center called and told me both my no
transmit failures were due to blown diodes on the control switching
board caused by ESD. Seems in the SW dry states there is enough static
electricity in the dry air to enter the rig through the coax and destroy
these diodes. I use a LDG DTS-4 antenna selector switch that
automatically grounds all my antenna connections when 12 vdc is removed
from the ant switch when I switch off the rig and P/S. I also have
Polyphaser surge protectors in line with my coaxes at the base of my
tower where the coax goes under the ground. The surge protectors are
grounded to the base of the tower via the section of the tower that is
underground, by three 8 ft ground rods, one at each leg of the tower,
and by a 10 ft deep, 8 ft wide rebar cage so I am at a loss of how this
static electricity gets into my rig and causes ESD. My next step will be
to install additional surge protectors where the coax enters my home. As
it is, there is a 18 ft run of coaxes and rotor cable running
underground from the base of the tower to the wall of the house with
about 12 inches exposed before they enter the wall. I will put an
additional set of suppressors there attached to a 8 ft ground rod.

Several others on this reflector have reported their 756Pros losing
transmit due to Icom telling them it is caused by ESD. Just something to
be aware of.
