[ICOM] Removing FL-53A filter

The 455KHz filters are quite heavy and WILL fall out if the radio is
bumped.... and not all that hard. Subsequently, Icom developed the
retaining clips which hold the filter in place without having to flip
the board. remember this radio dates back to the eighties. At that time
the 751A was considered a mobile transceiver... small radios like the
706 or 7000 wouldn't exist for another 15 years! It was also normal
practice in those days (no surface mount components) to expect amateurs
to have minimal soldering and assembly skills. Most options were "solder
in" which required flipping the board. The FL52A/FL53A was actually
quite unusual requiring only that it only be bolted in.

It might be a good time to suggest to all: If you ship a radio with
plug-in filters for repair or sale... pull the filters and pack them
separately! I just received shipment of a used radio I bought second
hand with the CW filter bouncing around freely inside the radio.
Fortunately it still worked when lugged back in...

Thanks to all for the info regarding filter removal. The filter was indeed
bolted to the board. I have no idea why those studs are on these filters. I
guess if you have your rig in a cross country moto cross LandRover it might
keep the filter from jiggling out, but in normal amateur use I can't imagine
why one would want to go to the trouble to fasten those nuts on the studs
and go to the trouble of removing the board to do so. Maybe it would be of
value if a Richter 10 earthquake hits, but ....
