[ICOM] IC-7800, Vista and Contest Software

Phil,

This may be more info than you wanted, but here goes...

I chase DX and run contests, operating mostly RTTY and CW... sometimes phone
and PSK. I use N1MM for contesting and DX4Win for general logging. DX4Win is
my "core" logging program, and all contest QSOs from N1MM are transferred
via ADIF file to DX4Win. Both programs interface to an external K1EL
Winkeyer for keyboard-generated CW and software-generated macros. (Both
programs also generate stand-alone CW, but there have been lots of issues
with under-powered computers producing mis-formed and mis-spaced CW
characters - thus the Winkeyer).

My interface for rig control is the Radio Shack #20-047 USB-scanner cable,
and the interface for mode control is a RIGblaster Plus. I re-wired the RB+
using a single 8 conductor cable to connect the front-panel mic jack on the
RB+ to the rear-panel ACC-1 jack on the Icom. The cable carries all mode
signaling: audio in/out, PTT, CW, FSK, gnd, 12v power. Eliminated a wall
wart and sure cleaned up the rat's nest of cables surrounding the RB+.

This arrangement works well for me because I can switch between all four
modes (phone, CW, FSK RTTY, PSK31), and between two logging programs (N1MM
and DX4Win) without any re-configuration, switch changes, or re-plugging.
